Anyone with even a mild interest in fashion knows the impact of Versace’s supermodel ad campaigns from the ’90s. Photographed by the likes of Steven Meisel and Richard Avedon, the campaigns were simple and classic in their studio lighting and set design. This allowed the focus to remain on the clothes (colorful, loud, provocative) and the instantly recognizable faces of the Supers of the era: Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Stephanie Seymour, Carla Bruni, Veronica Webb — and the list goes on. But there was one partic...moreular campaign the began to resonate more this year, particularly when one of the looks ended up on the world stage again. During her epic press tour for “Barbie” this summer, Margot Robbie and stylist Andrew Mukamal pulled out a pink cropped turtleneck sweater and matching metallic pink miniskirt ensemble with loafers and socks from Versace’s fall winter 1994 collection, a look that Kate Moss originally wore on the runway some 30 years ago. The look was shown again in the subsequent ad campaign, shot by Avedon, where Christy Turlington donned the look alongside her fellow Supers for what has become one of the most famous ad campaigns in fashion history. WireImage Fast forward a few months and the aesthetic — and the Versace supermodel legacy — has become the thesis once again for Versace’s spring ’24 collection, from the pastel colors, mini hemlines and metallic accents all way down to the ’90s slingbacks and clear heels — plus a Claudia Schiffer appearance. Donatella Versace looked more specifically to the brand’s spring 1995 collection for inspiration on the silhouettes of spring ’24, incorporating suiting, flouncy dresses and a distinctively ’90s lime green color along with the pastels, metallics and mini skirts of the 1994 collections and that famous ad campaign. Instead there were slingbacks — now undisputedly the pump throwback du jour — that came in Key Lime green and and bubblegum pink, done in slick patent leather and outfitted with the Medusa medallion. Square-toed stacked heel boots came in satin and there were plenty of PVC heels to go around, including a platform pair that is likely to resonate with current Versace fans. The new era of Gucci is here. At its runway show at Milan Fashion Week, the behemoth Italian fashion brand unveiled its spring ’24 collection, the official debut from newly minted creative director Sabato De Sarno. There was a lot of red. Ahead of the Friday afternoon show, the designer had hinted at the unveiling of a new color palette and what he wanted to bring to the new Gucci. “Red is actually everywhere at Gucci,” De Sarno told WWD earlier in the week. “The very first Jackie bag was black with a red lining. I went to the Savoy Hotel, where Guccio Gucci worked [a...mores a young man before founding his company] and the elevator, inside, is red.” A look from Gucci’s spring ’24 collection, done in creative director Sabato De Sarno’s artistic shift to a red iconography for the brand. On the runway, it was indeed everywhere. On patent leather blazers and matching pencil skirts with high thigh slits. On fringed skirts and leather hot pants. There were plenty of slingback pumps, with elongated toe boxes, sharp points and gold chain link strap hardware (“Gucci” spelled out in a retro font inside of it), done in a patent as slick as those glossed lips. There were also heavy platforms, done in a flatform style on a series of Gucci’s traditional Horsebit loafer. They came in the new Gucci red but also in the brand’s classic tan monogram canvas, as well as the its signature green-and-red stripe (which the brand still calls a “web”, referring to a belt that is worn under a horse’s belly with saddlery — Gucci started out in equestrian gear, after all). De Sarno’s last role was at Valentino, where he worked as fashion director for men’s and women’s ready-to-wear. As of late, the footwear at Valentino has been big, bold, platformed; a heavy punctuation mark on all of those sharp but couture-level intricate garments from the brand, helping the looks to stand out and up even more on the runway. Nike’s Recovery in China, North America to be a Central Theme When It Reports Q1 Earnings Next Week - 18時間前  Footwear News

Ahead ofNike’s anticipated first quarterearningsreport next week, analysts are already outlining the top issues they expect to dominate the conversation. Amid a retail industry in flux, market watchers are looking for Nike’s recovery progress in the two crucial regions of North America and China. While some analysts are more skeptical about Nike’s short-term progress potential in Q1, most remained confident in the Swoosh’s potential for long-term growth. “China recovery uncertainty and lingering questions of brand/product strength could remain in focus,” wr...moreote Baird analyst Jonathan Komp in a note to investors this week, adding that recovery in China appears “lackluster” given macroeconomic headwinds in the region and softer performance from local retailers there. Stifel managing director Jim Duffy also warned of potential headwinds for Nike in China and North America this quarter, noting that comments on both regions will be “under particular scrutiny” during the call next week. “Nike continues to outperform western competitors in the region but soft consumer spending is an impediment,” Duffy wrote. “Our investor conversations suggest commentary on a softer China is well anticipated into the report.” However, despite potential slowdowns in North America and China, Duffy said he still views Nike’s full year guidance as “achievable.” In June, Nike said it expects fiscal year 2024 revenues to grow in the mid-single digits, accounting for headwinds from wholesale shipping timing from the prior year. In Q1, Nike expects revenues to be flat to up in the low single digits due to its efforts to reduce excess inventory. In Q4, North America revenues grew 5 percent and Greater China revenue grew 25 percent. In a call with investors in June, Nike CEO and president John Donahoe said the company would continue to invest in China with innovations and hyper-local activations. The company also noted that it had a record-breaking performance during the 6/18 shopping holiday in China, and was the No.1 sports brand on Tmall, Alibaba’s China e-commerce service. Nike is also seeing returns among Gen Z in China from its focus on combining innovation with local storytelling. Not all analysts were concerned with Nike’s potential for recovery in China. UBS analyst Jay Sole said in a note this week that he is “bullish on Nike’s long-term growth prospects in China,” citing data from a recent UBS consumer survey analyzing the market in the region. According to the survey, Nike ranks as the most premium brand in China, a region where consumers appear eager to trade up to the best quality sportswear. UBS also found that consumers in China are unlikely to be strongly motivated to purchase domestic sportswear brands as opposed to international brands like Nike. “We believe Nike has the brand strength, strategy, skills, resources, and balance sheet to outperform peers through a recession,” Sole wrote.
